J. Lohr 2023 Cuvée St. E, Paso Robles ($50)

With 72% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and 19 months in 225-liter French oak, the inspiration here is from the Grand Cru wines off the Right Bank of Bordeaux in St. Émilion. Violets and tobacco intertwine with blackberry and plum, forward and lush. Tannins are approachable with long, broad strokes of coffee and black raspberry.

J. Lohr 2024 Riverstone Chardonnay, Arroyo Seco, Monterey ($14)

A luscious entry, with a bath of buttered popcorn. A spray of just-squeezed lemon hovers over a fruit salad of melon and guava, reining in the wine’s rich character. Creamy nectarine rides through to the long finish.
