pureCru 2018 MC Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($50)

It is a pleasant surprise that this remains available from the 2018 vintage, but no surprise at all that Mitch Cosentino would choose to apply his signature to the wine. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, it is deeply flavorful and satisfying without seeming heavy or overblown. Red and black fruit tones are nicely interlaced and impressively detailed, showing subtle accents of spices and toast.

pureCru 2021 Pinot Noir, Carneros, Napa Valley ($38)

Crafted from fruit grown in a small vineyard east of the town of Sonoma, fewer than 100 cases of this were produced. It shows very expressive, red-toned fruit recalling cherries and ripe cranberries. Quite ripe but not quite sweet, it is nicely balanced by spicy aromatic top notes and enough acidity and fine-grained tannins to make this very appealing to casual drinkers as well as the Pinot cognoscenti.

Quilt 2021 Fabric of the Land Red Wine, Napa Valley ($45)

A vibrant blend of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Petit Verdot. Pomegranate, red apple, bramble, and cinnamon spice season this extroverted red. The delicious mélange is sewn together in well-structured harmony.

Rendition 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Napa Valley ($42)

Black cherry takes hold of the palate, while red tea, cassis, and cinnamon-sandalwood release a juicy stream. A bright, seamless beauty, generous and approachable in its youth.

Round Pond 2023 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Rutherford, Napa Valley ($30)

A stunning lesson in subtlety from Rutherford. Pale straw yellow color with a slight green tinge, youthful, vibrant, fresh, with excellent purity. Layered notes of citrus rind, passion fruit, lychee, and basil, augmented by a slight tropical note. Plenty of volume on the palate while maintaining excellent balance with lifted acidity to keep it lively. Entirely from stainless steel. A highly inviting, refined, elegant style.

Sao Miguel Do Sul, Alentejano, Portugal ($12)

Made with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, this wine is from Alentejano, which is known as “land of the cork.” A mix of earth, spice, and black fruit aromas such as black currant, raisin, licorice, coffee, vanilla, and tobacco are savory. On the palate, the taste of black fruit – especially cassis — is predominant, along with hints of clove, green pepper, mint, cocoa, and caramel. This full-bodied wine has a rich mouthfeel.

Seaglass 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast ($17)

Melted dark chocolate and black cherry leave a coating on the tongue, with a touch of sweet oak. Coffee bean, licorice, and blackberry surface and stretch to the satin-lined finish.

Seaglass 2022 Pinot Grigio, Central Coast ($15)

Searing acidity and a lean mineral base format an old-word style white. Prickly pear, lime sorbet, and a whisper of white flowers create a pizzazz-worthy contender.
