Member’s Mark 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Hills, Lake County ($14)

Aromas of boysenberry and mocha are fresh and inviting. The mouthfeel is dense, with broad strokes of spiced sandalwood plum and Worcestershire. Graphite and black pepper add a beefy layer of savory bliss.

95

Merriam 2023 Diana’s Estate Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley ($58)

An outstanding Pinot in all important respects, this displays spicy and savory accents that are beautifully interwoven with a delicious core of pure, structurally balanced fruit. Quite soft and silky in texture, it derives just the right measure of firmness from subtle oak and very fine-grained tannins. Convincing and complete – even at an early stage of development.

95

Merry Edwards 2023 Pinot Noir, Olivet Lane Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Co. ($77)

Brightly lit, with verve and energetic acidity. Black cherry, sweet tobacco, and vanilla ramp up to address a lustrous texture and a bounty of flavor. A hint of minerality at mid-point cleans the palate. Jasmine and rose petals accent with aromatics.

93

Momentum 2023 Legacy Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($39)

This opulent red takes long, generous strides across the palate with blackberry ganache, new leather, and umami savoriness. Well structured, with a firm tannic grip.

94

Morét-Brealynn 2024 Pinot Noir, Sexton Vineyard, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Co. ($72)

Aged in 66% new French oak, combining clones 115 and 777, the wine exudes white-peppered black raspberry, plum, and rhubarb at the front of the mouth. Chalky tannins and high-toned acidity envelop its earthy core.

89

Motif 2024 Pinot Noir, Monterey County ($10)

A superb value wine, dusky and woodsy, with campfire smoked cedar, soft plum skin tannins, soy sauce and rhubarb.

94

Napa 1847 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($40)

This looks and tastes as though it might cost $80 rather than half that price. Deep pigment concentration indicates that something serious is on the way even before a sniff or sip, and the wine follows through with very appealing aromas as well as dark toned fruit showing impressive density and depth of flavor.

91

Navigator 2022 Red Wine, Napa Valley ($20)

Juicy and bright, with just-ripened black cherry and plum. Tannins are dusted with cocoa and red licorice. Spiced oak charms on the long finish.
