Wine Reviews

91

Fly By 2024 Chardonnay, North Coast ($29)

Burnt caramel, lemon verbena, and a finely tuned acid structure reverberate in this well-crafted Chardonnay.

91

Fly By 2025 Sauvignon Blanc, CA ($18)

White flowers, peaches, and pineapple create a white wine with a sunny disposition. Acidity is bright and finishes with a dash of salinity.

91

Fog & Light 2025 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, Central Coast, CA ($17)

Brand name notwithstanding, this wine is a decidedly sunny expression of its variety. Pineapple, papaya, and lychee play with grapefruit and a smidgen of vanilla bean on both nose and glossy palate, where measured acidity is enhanced by the slight bite of Meyer lemon and green pepper.

89

Gaucho Spur 2024 Espuela del Gaucho Limited Edition Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina ($13)

High-toned acidity, with a meaty character with sleek tannins. Herbaceous notes add drama to plum and mocha.

90

Geyser Peak 2025 Sauvignon Blanc, California ($14)

A very solid Sauvignon Blanc, this shows clearly recognizable varietal character without tipping over into pungency or turning too tart. Light herbal aromas work nicely with citrus fruit scents and flavors, with good acidity providing energy through the finish.

91

Gilded Grace 2025 Rosé, Goose Gap AVA, Columbia Valley, WA ($15)

A blend of 77% Syrah, 16% Grenache, and 7% Mourvèdre, offering a blissfully perky acidity that races alongside notes of raspberry, cherry, and watermelon. Lilting notes of tangerine linger on the salty finish.

93

Goose Ridge Vineyards 2022 First Flight Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley ($26)

Grown and made in an endearingly classic style, this is a dry but not austere Cabernet with subtle, appealing leafy accent notes.

92

Goose Ridge Vineyards 2022 First Flight Family Legacy Red Blend, Columbia Valley ($26)

A Bordeaux-style blend, this strikes a nice balance between robust flavors and the soft textural profile many consumers seek in a blend as opposed to a varietal Cabernet. Featuring notes recalling blackberries, plums, and Bing cherries, it is bolstered by enough tannin to stand up to red meats or aged cheeses.
