Bolle Grand Reserve, NV, Non-Alc, Sparkling Wine, La Mancha, Spain ($70)

Spending three months in oak and an additional nine on lees (a first for a nonalcoholic wine), this blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Sylvaner smells of pear subtly laced with vanilla, herbs, and a slight bready note. Citrus fruit like Meyer lemon and mandarin orange emerge on the palate, framed by good acidity.

Bolle Reserve, Non-Alc, Chardonnay, East-Central, France ($40)

Aromas of crisp apple with hints of almond blossom and fresh lychee make a convincing case for the character of this 100% Chardonnay, and the clarity of the apple notes within the light body confirm it, rounded out by a blush of peach.

Borgo Scopeto 2022 Borgonero Toscana IGT, Italy ($29)

This Super Tuscan blend of 40% Sangiovese with 20% each Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon epitomizes chiaroscuro, or the interplay of light and shadow. While grounded in notes of cranberry, spiced plum, and roasted beet seasoned with oregano, sage, and dusty earth, it’s elevated by vivid acidity and a velvety-smooth mouthfeel courtesy of polished tannins.

92

Bread & Butter 2022 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($30)

Intense, with a savory flair. Soy sauce, dark chocolate, and other barrel flavors emerge alongside generous notes of black plum and cassis. Finishes with baking spices and coffee coating structured tannins.

91

Buck Summit 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon, North Coast ($27)

This American oak-aged 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is an athlete with lean muscular notes amid dark plum, cassis, and graphite.

93

Casas del Bosque 2022 Gran Reserva Syrah, Casablanca Valley, Chile ($20)

An earthy red, with forest floor sporting rich, ripe notes of black cherry and dark roast coffee. An herbaceous quality angles with tingly sage. Well built; meaty and broad.

92

Casas del Bosque 2023 Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Maipo Valley, Chile ($21)

Chile’s Maipo Valley is among the world’s great sites for growing Cabernet, and this wine shows that at a very attractive price. Blackberry and black raspberry fruit aromas and flavors are accented with a whiff of Maipo eucalyptus, with fine-grained tannins lending structure but imparting no astringency.

Casas del Bosque 2024 “La Cantera: Botanic Series Sauvignon Blanc, Casablanca Valley, Chile ($18)

A twist of lime zest, grapefruit sorbet, and green tea are expressive notes for this vivid and precise Sauvignon Blanc.
