Klet Brda, 2021 Colliano White Wine with Maceration, Primorska, Slovenia ($20)

A deeper hue of yellow, as a result of maceration, with lime blossom and herbal undertones. The blend of 40% Ribolla Gialla, 30% Malvasia, and 30% Sauvignonasse elongates citrus notes, notably lemon and grapefruit. Ripe apricot and tangerine peel offer some viscosity, and the high acid structure reins in some of the weight. Finishes with a rippling effect of white pepper and tea leaves.

Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé ($100)

Generosity no less than grace defines this 100% Pinot Noir from ten different crus primarily in the Montagne de Reims. Slightly coppery salmon-pink in the glass, it displays a radiant nose of ripe red berries that pop against glimmers of spiced biscotti and roasted cashew. On a broad palate of pure silk, raspberry and black cherry are underlined by blood-orange rind and crushed rock before a long, almost voluptuous finish that’s slightly savory with dried mint.

Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée , Champagne, France ($60)

Boasting the texture of billowing silk, this Chardonnay-dominant brut cuvée openly appeals with aromas of buttery brioche, lime blossom, and ripe peach—the latter of which forms a bridge on the palate between the creaminess of pear frangipane and lemon sherbet and the freshness of lemongrass and yuzu, edged by a light stroke of chalk.

Luca Bosio Vineyards 2022 Gavi DOCG, Piedmont, Italy ($20)

Aromas of Mandarin orange spice leads to a salty sea breeze on the palate. Lemon verbena and honeysuckle perk up flavors for a vivid profile.

92

Lucas & Lewellen 2018 Hidden Asset, Santa Barbara County ($33)

A multi-variety blend of Malbec, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc proffering supercharged black cherry in grainy tannins. Bright acidity, with mocha and cranberry standouts. Ripe and rich, without any edges.

93

Lucas & Lewellen 2019 High 9 Pinot Noir, Goodchild Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County ($42)

Juicy and enigmatic, with wispy notes of raspberry and dried roses. Delicate on the palate with an inner strength. Tobacco and tomato leaf are savory, with red tea and vanilla lighting up the white peppered finish.

93

MacRostie 2022 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County ($28)

A beautifully crafted wine, pale straw color, refined, pronounced aromatics of pear, stone fruit, and vanilla. Ultra elegant style, nuanced yet highly expressive, ample weight on the palate, bright underlying acidity with well-integrated high-quality oak. A seamlessly smooth wine sourced from the exceptional sites of both Carneros and the Russian River Valley, including Sangiacomo, Ricci, Dutton and Martinelli. 77% was barrel fermented in French oak, 15% new oak. The remainder is cool fermented in stainless steel to lift the brightness of the final blend. Aged on the lees for six months with occasional lees stirring to a broader textural component. Partial ML.

Mercer Bros. 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington ($20)

Solid density of color, deep core, youthful appearance, lovely aromatics. Notes of cassis, black fruit, savory, vanilla oak notes, with good intensity. Weighty on the palate, but balanced and harmonious, with well-integrated wood and as with many Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the tannins lend firmness and definition on the back palate. Fourteen months oak aged, a combination of French and American wood. Outstanding value!
