Wente Vineyards 2021 Baily Hill Pinot Noir, Central Coast ($20)

Baily Little, a Wente family friend, was a pioneer of Pinot Noir vineyards in California’s Central Coast. Black cherry and cinnamon spice highlight the character of this juicy, earthy red. Finely tuned acidity and a spark of white pepper plays out on the zippy clove and red tea finish.

Westwood 2021 Chardonnay, Sangiacomo Vineyard, Roberts Road, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County ($55)

Glistening aromas and flavors of honeyed pecan and Golden apple are eye-opening. Toasty notes and a floral tangerine essence are subtle and lightweight, but texturally broad. White pepper prickles on the finish, garnished with ample acidity and lingering minerality.

Westwood 2021 Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir, Annadel Gap Vineyard, Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County ($135)

Borne from the Biodynamic, organic, and sustainable Annadel Gap Vineyard, this 18-month French-oak aged Pinot Noir is a power player. Beginning with deep earth tones, cigar box, and espresso, black cherry soon emerges in a flash of juicy ripeness. Sparked by high-toned acidity, dried roses are uplifted, and spiced with a hint of cinnamon.

Westwood 2021 Westwood Twenty-One Red, Annadel Gap Vineyard, Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County ($135)

This 100% Syrah’s inky black-purple hue matches its powerhouse persona. Slate and licorice slather the palate with jammy boysenberry and sprinkle it with black pepper. Seductive notes of bittersweet dark chocolate liaise with black cherry and sweet oak on the spicy finish.

Yacoubian-Hobbs 2019 Areni, Rind, Vayots Dzor, Armenia ($35)

Blistered notes of tobacco are sweetened by black cherry and licorice. Swathed in wet stone, its appeal is its quiet passion. Earth tones are deep, draped in animale and black tea. Unwavering, elegant, and complex.

Yacoubian-Hobbs 2020 Areni, Rind, Vayots Dzor, Armenia ($50)

An inviting and concentrated red, with an evident grace from start to finish. Rose petals are veiled in black cherry and wild strawberry. Mid-point notes of cigar leaf and bramble ad to its appeal. Acidity is balanced with a mineral sidekick, invigorating the wine’s freshness.
