Broadside 2020 Blackletter Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles ($75)

Textured with a velvet lining, this Cab Sauv, with the addition of 11% Cab Franc, is sourced from Santa Margarita Ranch, Adelaida District, and Willow Creek. Notes of plum pudding, fudge, and café latte are seamless and creamy. Showing a bit of dust, the liquid wash of blackberry jelly is cloaked in leather and sweet soil.

With the addition of Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Petite Sirah, this French-oak aged red produces bold notes of tobacco, blackberry, and sandalwood. Savory notes are amplified by graphite for a fine, textural experience.

Broadside 2022 Chardonnay, Central Coast ($17)

With 30% new French oak and the balance in stainless steel, this white comes across dramatically round and creamy. Notes of toasted bread, lemon cake, and salted taffy meld in the afterglow of tropical fruit aromatics. Spiced almonds bristle and a fine acidity completes the journey.

From Paso Robles’ coolest sub-districts, a pleasurable and approachable choco-licious Merlot, spiked with white pepper and plush black cherry. Violets sweeten roasted coffee and dark plum. A touch of Malbec adds a meatiness. Aged 16 months in 22% new French barrels, with the balance in neutral oak.

Burgess 2017 Sorenson’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($175)

Concentrated, generous notes of plum and slate are staged within a well-structured frame. Dynamic notes of dark chocolate, anise, tobacco, and blackberry level out at mid-palate, with added dimension of cedar and soy sauce on the finish. This is Bud Sorensen’s special cuvée, celebrating over four decades of harvests.

Ca’ Momi 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($28)

Opaque and dense, with coffee-chocolate lingering on suede tannins. Balanced and round, boysenberry purée settles well on the palate, creamy and ripe. A touch of sweet smokey oak on the finish lengthens the experience.

Calla Lily 2021 Ultimate Red, Napa Valley ($65)

From the eastern side of Howell Mountain, this estate grown red is a blend of 89.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.3% Cab Franc, 4.7% Merlot, with a pinch of Malbec. Concentrated and opulent, with creamy boysenberry, black tea, and cinnamon spice. With a high tone profile, and a base of graphite, its athletic prowess is deep-rooted.
