Edmundo 2024 White Malbec, Mindoza, Argentina ($11)

It’s very pale in color due to the short skin contact time. It brings a surprisingly vibrant red fruit aroma of raspberry and cherry, it’s all primary fruit, fresh, bright, with very good purity, fermented dry. For those looking for something that is a lot of fun and off the beaten path, this is a good option. Best served well chilled.

Ferry Lacombe 2023 Evidence Rosé, Côtes de Provence, France ($28)

Despite its pale shell-pink color, this blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Cinsault, and 10% Vermentino isn’t wispy in the least, boasting upbeat aromas and flavors of pink grapefruit, red apple, and dried apricot underpinned by structuring hints of stone and fresh herbs, including mint.

Ferry Lacombe 2023 Mystère Rosé, IGP Méditerranée, France ($28)

Name notwithstanding, there’s no mystery as to the straightforward appeal of this blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Grenache Blanc, and 20% Caladoc: Sunny scents of melon, peach, and strawberry plus glints of wet rock shed light on a juicy, bouncy palate with clean accents of Meyer lemon.

90

Firesteed 2021 Pinot Noir, Oregon ($25)

A delicate style, with genuinely light body but good aromatic expressiveness and a leafy, savory profile that leads into bright red cherry fruit freshened by vibrant acidity. Just right for salmon or white meat dishes.

Flora Springs 2023 Soliloquy, Napa Valley ($70)

The Soliloquy clone for Flora Springs’ Sauvignon Blanc was first discovered in the Komes’ family vineyard in 1989. Even today, John and Nat Komes refer to Soliloquy as “our most beloved flagship white wine.” Nurtured with an addition of Malvasia and Chardonnay, the saturating liquid recalls dusted white flowers, Anjou per, white rice, and Meyer lemon. Lively acidity is formatted to brighten just ripened pineapple and bring a tear of joy to a finish of orange blossom.

95

Foley Family 2019 Brut Sta. Rita Hills ($65)

The very picture of chic. Arresting aromas of brioche, pear skin, spiced quince, and salted pine-nut brittle announce this blend of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay aged 40 months on the lees before it arrives on the palate in sleek, racy fashion, flaunting flavors of dried white fig and yellow plum. The intense finish of lemon and bitter almond makes you anticipate the next sip before you’ve finished the last.

Forever Young 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, IGP Pays d’Oc, France ($20)

Exceptionally refreshing without seeming overly grassy, this wine’s vibrant acidity will enable it to succeed year-round, whether that means enjoying it poolside or with fresh oysters in winter. Stated alcohol is a very modest 11.5%, yet the wine doesn’t taste under-ripe at all, with bright flavors of grapefruit and lemon.

93

Franciscan 2022 Chardonnay, California ($15)

Featherlight, with wispy notes of candied pineapple, crème fraiche, and honeysuckle. Overdelivers on price and quality, with a complexity one doesn’t expect at this level. It finishes with a wonderfully spiced pear tart and Brazil nut. A paradigm of creamy and lean.
