Groth 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve, Oakville, Napa Valley, USA
This recently released vintage came from an early harvest with lighter yields. Made with estate fruit from Groth’s 27.78-acre Reserve Block, the Cab aged 22 months in barrel and 14 months in bottle before it was released this past October. Perfumed red peony and roses along with tilled soil generate a garden party on the nose. Structured and mighty, dusty cocoa and ripe plum lead to a sweetly spicy mid-palate of sage and cedar. It’s reminiscent of a Grand Cru Bordeaux, albeit with some extra sunshine. 96
