The low-ABV ready-to-drink (RTD) beverage market is growing on a global level, driven by the trends of convenience, moderation, and premiumization of spirit-based RTDs. To this point, low-ABV cream-based beverages have struggled to significantly contribute to the market due to operational limitations and high barrier to entry.
Jeroen Huiskes, innovation manager at Creamy Creation, explains, “We know that not many creamy and indulgent RTDs have seen the light of day due to a special high-temperature heat treatment [retort] that has been required. This process is only offered by a limited number of co-packers, who typically have high MOQs, making the market entrance for low-ABV creamy RTDs difficult and costly. Seeing that there is a clear gap in the market, we came up with a solution and developed an innovative technology that only requires pasteurization, which is readily available via co-packers in the global industry. This gives cream-based beverages an easier entry-to-market in the low-ABV space.”
