View from a Bar: Eighteen Ninety Grille and Lounge, Granbury, Texas

By: Anthony Head

In this new web feature, Anthony Head (aka The Armchair Oenophile) will be corresponding regularly from the best barstool available in his favorite drinking establishments throughout Texas and beyond. Sidle up and get cozy . . . it's going to be a long night.

Less than an hour south of Fort Worth, Granbury is a tiny treasure in a very big state. In a town of fewer than 10,000, the history of Texas is as big as ever.

This was a hub of the Wild West, and Jesse James, Bonnie & Clyde, Belle Star and other notorious outlaws are all said to have passed through town—but they all minded their manners and were never arrested here. The photo behind the bar at Eighteen Ninety honors the numerous hard-core sheriffs who kept the peace.

The Traditional Bock from Granbury's Revolver Brewing is deeply flavored and strong—just like the iron will of those lawmen.
