Robert Mondavi Private Selection Debuts New Appellation, Packaging

Drawing on its extensive vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands and Paso Robles, Robert Mondavi Private Selection has returned to its roots by reintroducing the "Central Coast" appellation designation to its wines. To mark this change, bold, modern new packaging was created to reflect the new positioning and quality of the Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines.

New packaging reflects the return to a Central Coast appellation for  Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines.

Robert Mondavi's visionary pursuit of great California wines led him to the Central Coast in the 1990s when he sourced grapes from the Bianchi Bench Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands region of Monterey County and the Pine Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles. These premier vineyards formed the foundation for Robert Mondavi's original line of coastal wines. In recent years, all Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines carried the 'California' appellation to give the winery flexibility in fruit sourcing, even though the majority of the wine came from Central Coast vineyards.

"Central Coast vineyards have always been the foundation of Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines," noted Rick Boyer, winemaker for Robert Mondavi Private Selection.  "This year we have taken our sourcing to a true Central Coast appellation, and we're delighted with the high quality we have in the bottle."

Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and other varieties, and a new red blend that will launch later this year.  The suggested retail price for the wines is $10.99.
