Boothby Center Opens with a Party and Some Class(es)
Non-Profit Beverage Education and Event Center Forges New Path in the San Francisco Bay Area Cocktail Scene
The Barbary Coast Conservancy of the American Cocktail (BCCAC) announces the first scheduled events to take place at its new home, The "Cocktail" Bill Boothby Center for the Beverage Arts (The Boothby Center), at 1161 Mission Street, San Francisco.
The facility was designed and created for the expressed purpose of fulfilling the non-profit's charter to "preserve the cultural heritage of saloons and their cocktails in San Francisco, while also preserving California's culinary philosophy and tradition via special public events, publications and educational seminars."
These first scheduled events include:
The Repeal Day Holiday Party - A celebration of two great cultural events in one party: the 77th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition and the beginning of the Holiday Cocktail Party Season. This 20's and 30's era themed, costume party is on Sunday, December 5th ("Repeal Day") from 6pm until 10pm. It is sponsored by Bacardi USA and Maker's Mark, with holiday snacks provided by Comstock Saloon (served in the neighboring M Café) and both holiday and period music. Tickets are $35 per person and are available on Eventbrite.com
Mixology 101 Cocktail Classes - Taught by BCCAC Co-Founder and 2010 Bartender of the Year, H. Joseph Ehrmann, this introductory cocktail class is open to the public and will teach the essential basics of cocktails to students in a hands-on manner. The goal is to help students learn what is necessary to enjoy their cocktailing experiences more as well as to become better home entertainers while mixing for their friends and families. Sponsor products include Square One Organic Vodka, Plymouth Gin, Wild Turkey Bourbon and Espolón Tequila. Classes are from 6pm to 8pm at The Boothby Center on December 5th and 18th. Tickets are $100 per person and are available on Eventbrite.com.
"These events have been a long time coming after more than a year of design and build out of the Center," said H. Joseph Ehrmann, who is now Director of the Boothby Center. "We are really excited to start booking more events on a regular basis and have a few interesting programs we are currently working on with friends both near and far."
The Center's future is being designed on a daily basis while the BCCAC also continues to work on plans for the 2011 San Francisco Cocktail Week. "We are accepting proposals from the beverage trade for use of the Center and as well as booking private engagements as rentals of the space for various events," stated Jeff Hollinger, Director of SF Cocktail Week. "Without the success of San Francisco Cocktail Week over the last four years and the support of our numerous great sponsors, volunteers and participants, this would never have come to fruition."
Donations to the BCCAC, event volunteer sign-ups and email addresses will be collected at all events..
