Tradition. Family. Integrity. These are three of the words that come to mind when we think of the legacy of Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky here in the TASTING PANEL offices. From its heritage of fine whisky-making dating back to 1886 to maintaining its status as one of the few entirely family-owned and -operated distilleries in Scotland, Glenfiddich is as iconic as spirits brands come.

But that doesn't mean this storied brand is afraid of mixing things up in new ways: Over the years, we've seen bartenders across the country come up with new and innovative ways to present this classic single malt to a new and growing whisky-loving audience.

That's why THE TASTING PANEL is proud to team up with Glenfiddich's all-star team of Brand Ambassadors to seek out the coolest, most interesting and out-of-the-box ways today's industry is serving up this kindred spirit.

Welcome to Kindred Spirit, a campaign that will showcase, throughout 2014, the ways in which you, the talented TASTING PANEL readers, are rethinking the classic dram-with nary a shaker tin in sight.

"It's not necessarily a cocktail," explains Glenfiddich West Coast Brand Ambassador Mitch Bechard. "With Kindred Spirit the Serve we are looking for is about creating something that is going to enhance the flavors of Glenfiddich. For example, the 12 Year Old has nice pear and vanilla characteristics, so we'd be looking for something like an ice cube infused with pear and vanilla to play off those flavors, so that as the cub melts, those flavors will be highlighted even more."

Chimes in David Allardice, who oversees the Central region, "We're looking forward to seeing accounts serving Glenfiddich in different ways, even something similar to what we're seeing with wine pairings. It can be anything the bartenders want to play with: cheese, coffee, chocolate . . . something new and exciting."

With so much innovation going around, THE TASTING PANEL is thrilled to select six of the nation's top Serves to join us on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to visit the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, Scotland in early 2015. Two representatives from each winning account will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to explore the whisky motherland, where they will experience a VIP tour of the distillery. Even better? You will create your serve for the member of the Grant-Gordon family, who will judge your serve on quality, originality and promotion at your restaurant. One winning account will be selected and will be awarded $3,000 to spend on a day or night on the town with its hard working team.

"We are very excited to sponsor some of our industry's finest for an up-close look at Glenfiddich," says Meridith May, Editorial Director for THE TASTING PANEL. "This trip will provide The Kindred Spirit finalists with a unique chance to experience and understand Glenfiddich's place in the history of Scotch whisky-all of which will be documented in THE TASTING PANEL, of course!"

Agrees East Coast Brand Ambassador Struan Ralph, "Scotland is a magical place. Anytime we have the opportunity to bring people to our spiritual home and meet the family, they become part of our family. It changes people. It's really special."
